Alex's Baptism

Alex was baptized on August 27th at St. Clare's Catholic Church. We had waited to have him baptized because his godmother is Chris's sister Jenny who is in the Navy and we wanted to find a time where she would be most likely to be able to be there! As it turns out, it worked out nicely because Alex was able to wear the same outfit that Jacob wore - which was also what my "little" brother Chris wore when he was baptized. (If you didn't know, Chris is now 20 years old and significantly taller than me which is why I put little in quotes. He'll also be coming to stay with us for a month starting in November so we're very excited.) The ceremony was very nice, with 4 other babies being baptized at the same time. It was especially nice that Jenny's godparents were able to come! We had a small get together at the park by our house after the ceremony and a good time was had by all.

Other things going on:

Chris's parents came into town a week early and gave Chris and I the opportunity to go up to San Francisco for the weekend - sort of a belated anniversary celebration. The weather was beautiful (which is not a given in San Francisco) and we had a great time. Jenny came in on Tuesday and everyone had a nice visit. During Jenny's stay here, she missed an earthquake and a hurricane back in Virginia. There is definitely an irony to coming to California and missing and earthquake at home.

The day after the baptism, the seven of us took the train up to San Francisco and the ferry across the bay for lunch. We took the ferry back to Pier 39 and walked to Ghiardelli Square for ice cream sundaes. We took the bus through Chinatown and back to the train. It was a long, exhausting day but lots of fun.

Chris's parents left the next day and Jenny left Tuesday. On Wednesday, a couple we knew from Tech came and spent the night. It was great to see them! The last time we saw them I was not long before Alex was born and they stayed with Jacob overnight while Chris took me to the hospital. Luckily there was no such drama on this visit!

We'll have to wait for pictures from the Baptism. Chris's mom was our official photographer and they are in the midst of their own excitement right now - moving to San Diego after nearly 18 years in Texas!
