So much to learn!

First of all, I can't believe I did an entire post about Alex and forgot to mention that he has teeth! Yes, it's been a month, but at that time he had his two bottom teeth. He now also has two top teeth. He also has become much more mobile. It took him awhile to roll over, but once he got it it wasn't long before he was up on all fours rocking back and forth. There was a brief period of time scooting backward. Next came rocking back and forth and then throwing himself forward. That was one I've never seen a baby do before, but it was fairly effective. There was all fours, one arm forward, next arm forward, jump with the legs. This is going to make things super exciting since he's already doing what he can to follow Jacob around - and me too for that matter. He is still at work with me until his first birthday which is getting interesting now that's he's getting harder to contain! On the flip side, he's also learning to feed himself finger foods which is HUGE. It is so nice to be able to put food on his tray and be able to sit and eat with him instead of having to feed him and eat later.

Jacob constantly amazes me with his language explosion. While it's still pretty hard to understand what he's saying sometimes, he'll come home singing new songs that he learned at school and telling me about his friends. He has a lot to say and some very specific opinions on how things should go. I've been meaning to tell a story about Jacob and his magnetic letters. He got the letters for Easter and has a magnet board in the kitchen. He likes to play with the letters but he also insists they get put away (which is good since Alex is not at all old enough for magnetic letters). One day he was putting them in the box and telling me what letters they were: A...X...L...brella...W. In case you are not familiar with the letter "brella", it is in fact a capital J which looks like an umbrella when it is upside down. That didn't last long - he now knows it's a J and is excited about said letter because it's the first one in his name. He loves to cut paper with scissors and coloring with markers - under close supervision so nothing gets unexpected cut or colored, but also so Alex doesn't get in on the fun. Alex is still far more likely to eat the art supplies. This is one of the reasons I'm glad Jacob goes to daycare: it simply would not have occurred to me that he would be ready for scissors. He seems to favor his left hand but it still ambidextrous so we'll see.

It is amazing to watch them learn and explore. Definitely one of the cooler parts of being a parent. Certainly beats getting up in the middle of the night, taking care of sick kids, and changing diapers! Lately it seems like at least once a week someone has a fever or is generally miserable. I can't imagine this will get better once cold and flu season starts and Alex starts school! I guess time will tell.
