Happy Birthday Jacob!

Once again it's been a very busy week at our house. On Tuesday, Jacob and I went to the Y (they have kind of a playgroup on Tuesdays and Thursdays) and everyone sang Happy Birthday to him. He just stood there looking at them like they were completely nuts. We ended up having to leave early because about halfway through Jacob got super grumpy. I wasn't surprised when he fell asleep before we'd even left the parking lot. Unfortunately that was followed by crying every time we stopped the car and by dinner time he had a fever. The fever wasn't high, but it was high enough to keep him out of daycare on Wednesday. A combination of Chris working from home and me leaving work early got us through the day. Jacob was actually completely recovered - we suspect he just wanted the day off for his actual birthday. Thursday was his appointment with the doctor. Everything looks good and Jacob continues to be bigger than the vast majority of people his age, weighing in at 28 lbs and a little over 33 inches. He got 5 shots, but by the time we got home no one ever would have been able to guess. He was laughing and playing and was generally thrilled to be home.

Today was Jacob's birthday party and although several people had to back out at the last minute we had a great time. I made a German chocolate cake for the adults because we will not have a chance to make one for Chris's birthday. (That's not precisely true, we will be home for Chris's birthday but leave town the next day and we are NOT eating an entire German chocolate cake in one day!) For Jacob (and anyone who didn't want chocolate cake) we had cupcakes. Although initially suspicious of the candle, Jacob thoroughly enjoyed his cupcake. I have included pictures but they can not really capture the enthusiasm he had for his cupcake. After everyone left Jacob wanted to keep playing but he did not complain one bit when I put him in bed. It was a long and busy day, but a lot of fun.
