Ever since we moved to California we have come back to Georgia every spring. Usually this has been for weddings or graduations and we come in for a week but everyone else still has work and school and whatever event is going on. This year, there is no big event. So we decided that it would be nice for everyone to be on vacation. We planned this trip back during a big snowstorm in Atlanta - where everyone was stuck at home for a week because of the ice - so the enthusiasm for a beach trip was high. The general itinerary is to spend several days in St. Simons with my dad and stepmother and then drive up to Edisto Island and spend several more days with my mom, sisters (with spouses and children) and brothers. The second part of the trip includes 9 adults, 2 toddlers, and 3 infants - with Alex being the oldest of the infants. So we expect it will be pretty chaotic! We will also be close to where Chris’s oldest sister lives so we expect to see her while we are there.
This, of course, will be Alex’s first time flying across the country. Or anywhere for that matter. We tested his traveling temperament on our road trip a few weeks back and he did pretty well. This will be more complex with the time change and the fact that we can’t pull over if there is a problem, but we don’t have to concentrate on driving so it will be easier to address issues in that way.
Another first for us: a red-eye! Our flight leaves at 8:45pm and gets in to Miami at 5am. Then we get on a plane from Miami to Jacksonville around 7:30. So we’ll see how that goes! We figure either it will go really well and we will all sleep the whole way OR it will going horribly wrong and they will scream the whole way causing the people around us to try and get us removed from the plane.
